Anna WilsonJAZZ has a new “It Girl”… Anna Wilson is finally “fading, fading into view,” to quote the Jazzbird/Songbird chanteuse and the poignant lyric from her upcoming single “Polaroid. After recording five studio albums, becoming the queen of the jazz vocal duet on her critically acclaimed Countrypolitan Duets album, achieving status as an award-winning ASCAP songwriter whose works appear on over 7 million RIAA certified records, and lending her philanthropic spirit through music in her partnership with Habitat For Humanity International, this dynamic and diverse songbird has much to sing about. Her new album Jazzbird/Songbird, due out on Transfer Records in 2015,is a modern day approach to old school record making, when albums were created as a complete thought and experience for the listener from beginning to end. Wilson embodies her inner Jazzbird early on in the sequence by penning original vocal jazz songs as well as paying tribute to the past by recording some of her favorite cover tunes. However, her Songbird gets a chance to boldly sing throughout the project as she shines a light on her ability to craft a lyric that has significant impact inside the context of her jazz-tinged vocals and arrangements. “This album is a real evolution for me as an artist. It was a challenge to marry the jazz singer in me with the pure songwriter in me. I really wanted to write a jazz based singer-songwriter album that was musically influenced by my love for vocal jazz and melody, but was also lyrically impactful with songs that make people think, feel and find their own experience inside them. When I decided to bookend the album with two cover songs that have been huge influences, Gershwin’s “Little Jazz Bird” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Songbird”, it seemed like the perfect way to build the journey that is this album.” Anna Wilson is a critically acclaimed jazz recording artist and songwriter whose timeless, sophisticated sound is juxtaposed by her stunningly contemporary voice and message. Jazz Times says, “She’s got a voice like crème de cacao and an inner metronome that swings wildly from age to age.” She has shared concert billings with many top acts such as Josh Groban, Boz Scaggs, Al Jarreau, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Keith Urban, and The Mississippi Mass Choir to name a few. In addition, she performs regularly at jazz festivals and exclusive wine events like the Napa Valley and Naples Wine Auction, the Grand Ole Opry, as well as intimate acoustic performances at Nashville’s famed Bluebird Café and similar venues around the country. After a twenty year recording career and five studio albums, this dynamic and diverse songbird has more to sing about than just jazz. She is currently co-producing another special project alongside her producer/songwriter husabnd, Monty Powell, that will highlight various country and pop artists as they re-imagine the songs of one of the finest singer/songwriters of our time…the great Billy Joel.   In addition to her diverse recording career as a jazz artist, Wilson is an award winning ASCAP songwriter whose compositions appear on over seven million RIAA certified albums. Over the years, she has penned songs for Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lee Ann Womack, Chris Cagle, Chuck Wicks and others, while continuing to write for up and coming young artists in pop, country and jazz and on the American Idol circuit. Community outreach is another important aspect of Anna’s career and she continually tries to find ways to marry her music with charities that she is passionate about. She is widely known for her Habitat For Humanity International song “A House, A Home” that garnered worldwide attention when it appeared in the charity’s public service announcements and received over $5 million in free advertising worldwide. In addition, her recent olympic inspired song “Spirit”whose royalties benefit Women’s Ski Jumping USA is currently available on iTunes. The proceeds directly benefit the organization to help support and run a successful and sustainable team, grow participation, produce the best women ski jumpers in the world and advocate for gender equality in sport. Born and raised in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Loyola University in Maryland, Anna Wilson resides in Nashville, TN. She enjoys golf, skiing, wine, perfroming live and recording innovative album projects that have appeal to wide audiences. Her music is engaging and effortless as she weaves her soulful, vulnerable and richly textured voice through everything she does. Anna Wilson’s Jazzbird and Songbird will surely sing forevermore.
