Anna Wilson Voice of America Interview

Wilson taps into Nashville’s so-called “Countrypolitan” era with the help of past and present country stars and two contemporary jazz giants.  She gives a big band treatment to “Walkin’ After Midnight,” featuring the Grammy-winning trio Lady Antebellum.

Wilson explains that Countrypolitan is rooted in “The Nashville Sound,” a style introduced in the late 1950s by artists like Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline and Eddie Arnold.

“The Music Initiative” – June Issue

June 25th, 2011

The Music Initiative Logo Online MagazineAlready an accomplished singer/songwriter, Anna fuses big band, blues, jazz, and swing with country music.  Nostalgic memories of Patsy, Bing, and jazz dame Ella abound.  This monumental recording calls on greats such as Larry Carlton, Kenny Rogers and contemporaries Keith Urban and Lady Antebellum to name a few.  Each song becomes a moment, a snapshot of past and present united accordingly; from the eloquent duet with Matt Giraud (“You Don’t Know Me”) to impassioned harmonies with Keith Urban (“Good Time Charlie’s Got The Blues”) to the inspirational tribute “I Will Never Know” with Lloyd Green.  Fitting, a harmonious duet with Kenny Rogers (“For The Good Times”) concludes Countrypolitan Duets. Surely though, the timeless grandeur of this beautiful album will live on and hopefully inspire many more dazzling collaborations.

Country Music People – CD REVIEW!

June 21st, 2011

This is an album of huge cross-over potential.  Anna Wilson's vocals are spot-on and entirely suited to the style, the arrangements are terrific, and if you've ever heard a Dinah Shore record you should like this.....Lady Antebellum sounds even more Manhatten Transfer on the Patsy Cline classic 'Walkin' After Midnight'...Keith Urban joins Anna Wilson on the much recorded 'Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues,' and for me, it's his finest work since being with The Ranch..." ---- DUNCAN WARWICK

Anna Wilson Tops Bill for Musicians Corner

Posted on June 17, 2011 by Dave Paulson

Anna Wilson will headline Musicians Corner at Centennial Park on June 18.

Even with Bonnaroo and the CMA Music Festival behind us, outdoor concert season is still in full swing in Music City. The second annual Musicians Corner concert series continues Saturday, June 18, in Centennial Park (West End and 25th, 862-8424) with Nashville jazz singer and hit country songwriter Anna Wilson.

On her new album, Countrypolitan Duets, Wilson sings classic country hits and standards with a cast of guest stars including Rascal FlattsLady Antebellum and Kenny Rogers. Considering that Emmylou Harris made a surprise appearance at last week’s Musicians Corner, we wouldn’t rule out the possibility of more special guests popping up this week. Rounding out this week’s bill are local pop/rock/folk talents Brooke Waggoner, Nathan Angelo, Daniel Bailey, Korby Lenker and Island Fusion.

The show is from 3 to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
